Scope of Responsibilities: The Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford (www.ssds-hartford.org), an EC2- 8th grade independent Jewish Day School, seeks a Principal for the 2013-14 school year. This dynamic, engaging and caring professional will join the Administrative Team during the summer of 2013 to oversee the educational program in the Elementary and Middle Schools, oversee the faculty’s professional development and lead the process of curriculum evaluation and renewal. Reporting to the Head of School, the Principal is a member of the school’s Administrative Team which works collaboratively on matters related to institutional advancement.

Scope of Responsibilities: Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School (CESJDS) is seeking an innovative, dynamic educational leader for our Middle School Division (grades 7-8). CESJDS is nationally renowned for the quality of education in general, Judaic and co-curricular studies; the community that has been created for students, families and staff; innovation in preparing students to be successful in the 21st Century; and outstanding facilities and resources. CESJDS is home to an educational program that combines learning with the experience of our rich traditions and with the acquisition of skills that enable our students to become successful community members and leaders. At present, the Middle School is a division within the Upper School (grades 7-12). The goal is to establish the Middle School as a separate division, and the School is seeking a Middle School Director to be a partner in implementing this transition. Specific responsibilities include:

- Conduct evaluation of instruction for all general studies courses, K through 5.
- Lead an academic management and monitoring strategy to ensure educational excellence, curricular coordination, curricular alignment with national and state standards, and the inculcation of respect and values.
- Guide and monitor teacher effectiveness through regular teacher team meetings, classroom observations, and through reports/feedback from parents, administrative team members, school curriculum/learning specialists, and faculty.
- Implement school mission, including academic excellence, in a variety of on-going endeavors—building shared vision among all teachers; standardizing teacher performance expectations; overseeing curricular coordination; developing a professional learning/growth culture among teaching faculty.
- Lead communication between school and home on individual student achievement, conduct, and learning needs.
- Direct the teacher professional development process in the Elementary School division.
- Provide for a learning environment that is centered in values, mutual respect, and high morale.
- Be aware of the educational, physical, social and psychological needs of the members of the school community and to develop plans for meeting those needs.
